Read MoreAbout Coaching
Coaching, whether focused on professional or personal outcomes, offers a path to discovery, action and transformation that no other method of personal development can provide. Coaching impacts businesses and families, productivity and peace of mind, income and life fulfillment, but it begins with challenging limiting belief systems, replacing old habits and behaviors and creating new foundations for unlimited success.
No one ever reached their dream destination by following someone else's path. The coaches at Pure Synchrony believe that nothing is impossible. It may not be possible for you to have success someone else's way but you can find your own path! What others call miracles are just the power of mind and determined action coming together.
Elements of Coaching
Your coaching engagement may be face to face or you may work with your coach via telephone and email. Regardless of the method of communication, the process has these four elements:
- Discovery - This is the beginning of the coaching process but it will continue throughout your journey. Your coach will work with you to clearly define your starting point, catalogue available resources, establish desired outcomes and clarify your vision and personal definition of success.
- Challenge - Each conversation with your coach will challenge your status quo in order to recognize and remove roadblocks, diagnose and mend "dis-syncs" and open up your most natural and powerful pathway to success.
- Action - With the guidance of your coach you will determine action items that accelerate your progress toward the outcomes you are passionate about achieving. Your coach may also ask you to begin using coaching exercises and activities to strengthen your "muscles" in between coaching and support sessions.
- Accountability - Success is only sustainable if the momentum is maintained. Your coach will continue to provide feedback and accountability as you take on challenges and set actionable goals.
Coaching vs. Therapy
While many therapists use coaching techniques and many coaches are also clinical therapists, the two do not serve the same purpose. The difference is similar to working with a physical therapist and a personal trainer. The therapist is working with you to improve function in an area that has been injured or is not working properly, the trainer works with you to develop a higher level of overall function, strength, stamina and form. You may work with one or the other or you may even work with both simultaneously. The same is true for clinical therapy and coaching, you may work with a therapist and a coach separately or together depending on your concerns and objectives.
Coaching vs. Consulting
Galileo Galilei is supposed to have said "You cannot teach a man anything. You can only help him to find it within himself." It is possible for you to take in superficial knowledge from external sources, but to create transformations in your life or business it is necessary that you work from within. At Pure Synchrony we know that if an activity or process is not developing the individual, it is not coaching. It is the difference between changing mindsets vs. only teaching knowledge, skills and systems. That said, consulting, when combined with team or individual coaching, can provide business answers, individual breakthroughs and sustainable success.
Coaching develops your own personal power, your own path to success. Therefore it is conversational, question based and client directed. The objective is for you to tap into your own answers, clarify your own vision and follow your own passions. Your coach is a guide and a mentor, someone who will point out the "dis-syncs" those things that should be in alignment but aren't. Your coach will reflect back to you a clearer picture of where you are, what you are aiming to achieve and will work with you to create an action plan and provide the accountability to get you there.
Consulting is diagnostic and prescriptive, answer based and process driven. In a consulting role your coach, in addition to providing the personal development of coaching, will audit your business systems, interview your team, interview clients or customers and provide you with a snapshot of your business as well as recommended remedies.
Coaching vs. Mentoring
As with a coach and a consultant, your coach and mentor may be the same person. A coaching process is just that - a process. There are objectives established, goals set, actions determined and outcomes evaluated. A coach will help you discover your purpose, interpret and communicate your vision, distill your message and achieve your goals. A coach is someone who acts as a guide through your interactions together.
A coach may also be a mentor, someone who also guides through their example, either as a person (you emulate the way they live) or in your industry or your role (you emulate the way they work) or both.
Being Coachable
How do you know when you are ready to benefit from working with a coach? Can you answer "yes" to these questions?
- Are you ready to change, not only what you do and how you do it, but what you believe and how you act upon it?
- Are you ready to learn to trust your instincts and develop your personal power?
- Are you ready to give up a "yeah, but" response that limits you and adopt a "let's explore that" response to new concepts and suggestions?
- Are you ready to begin a conversation with a professional who will challenge, guide, encourage and support you while accepting the responsibility for your own actions and outcomes?
Then you are ready.
